Kohler, WI– The site of the 2012 Midwest Classic in Kohler, Wisconsin was Blackwolf Run and the club’s two outstanding golf courses, The River and Meadow Valleys. The site of this summer’s 2012 US Women’s Open did not seem to intimidate the 183 Am Tour player’s that traveled to the shores of Lake Michigan to tackle one of the toughest Am Tour Major layouts in recent memory. A full 12 flights competed over the weekend at Blackwolf Run and when the dust settled there were 12 worthy competitors that earned the right to be called “Midwest Classic Champions.”
Jones Flight: Texan, Eric King from the Hill Country Tour, typically wears burnt orange slacks on Sunday but, wisely choose shorts this time around and that must have been all he needed in capturing his first ever Major Championship. King outlasted two Wisconsin players, John Hipp and Chris Johnson for the victory. Besides King’s victory, another Jones flight highlight of the weekend was Georgian John McAleer’s hole in one on Meadow Valleys #3 on Saturday.
Next Up: The Dallas Tour travels east to Canton on First Monday weekend for the Canton Classic @ Twin Lakes on Saturday, June 2nd. Hill Country Tour is off until the Austin - Nicklaus Open at Flintrock Falls on Saturday, June 16th. The Oklahoma Tour makes another stop in Edmond for the Coffee Creek Championship at Coffee Creek Golf Club on Sunday, June 3rd.

Fivesome Is In Order on Cinco DeMayo - Falconhead Championship
Scott R Chilcutt, Austin, TX (May 5, 2012) The public play heads were shaking in disbelief when the Falconhead staff allowed us to bypass waiting tee times to send off a "fivesome" on the first tee. Five players out of eleven in the Palmer Flight were knotted up after 18 holes and needed extras to award a champion but the wait wasn't long.
Falconhead Golf Club, designed by PGA Tour architects is located just minutes from Lake Travis in the western Hill Country area of Austin. The Lake is a perfect indicator of the continuing drought in the Hill Country, still some 42' below a full pool and 20' below the levels of one year ago, the Severe to Extreme conditions have hit the area hard. While some March rains have helped, the April showers didn't happen as we would have liked but Falconhead stayed on top of the maintenance and was in remarkable shape for the conditions.
Eighty four players finished their rounds in nine flights to continue the record breaking year on the Hill Country Tour. Xavier Bardy from San Antonio recorded his best round on tour to win the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders.
RESULTS:
Championship Flght: Austin, TX first time AM Tour player Charles Rougeau was obviously comfortable with the layout. Rougeau carded three birdies and a single bogie in route to a 2 under par 70, nine strokes ahead of fellow Austin player Charles Spangler Jr.. Spangler's card was a tale of a different story with only seven pars, the eagle on the par five, 5th and birdies on the 3rd and 14th kept his second place finish a comfortable five strokes clear of Chase Clayton from San Antonio.
Palmer Flight: In a hurry to take part in a buddies wedding and recuperate from the previous nights bachelor party, Jacob Morton from Fort Hood, TX and Killeen, TX player Craig Hart had to delay both items on the schedule when Matthew Alvers, Tom Frey and Tony Eno arrived with identical scores. Morton, who shot an even par on the back nine with three birdies kept his attention and momentum long enough to hole a 38' putt for birdie on the first playoff hole to record his first win in four attempts.
Hogan Flight: Fresh off an April 2nd promotion from the Sarazen Flight , James Matthews from Killeen, TX snatched his first win in his third attempt with the Hogan's. Matthews recorded thirteen par's on the round to stay three strokes ahead of San Antonio member Michael Mathis and Jim Morgan from Round Rock where the pair shared the 2nd spot.
Senior Hogan Flight: Houston, TX standout, Bill Mathews stayed to his leading ways after winning the Lake of the Ozarks Classic Major two weeks ago, won his 2nd Hill Country tour event on the year. Mathews, struggled on the back nine but with his, one over par front stayed three strokes ahead of a pair behind him. Paul Burleson from Argyle, TX birdied the final hole to tie up Bill Clark of Helotes, TX, with his best finish of the year, to share the second place finish.
Sarazen Flight: John Heintz from San Antonio carded his 2nd win of the year with birdies bookending an up and down round over fellow San Antonio player Rene Realme by three strokes. Michael Esquivel from Austin trailed Realme by three strokes for the third spot.
Senior Sarazen Flight: Houston Tour member Lane McKinney from League City, TX picked up his first win on tour by two strokes over Austin member Gregg Smith. Smith eagled the par five 18th from the fairway to keep a two stroke cushion over Gerald Cato from Bastrop, TX.
Jones Flight: Josue Duprey from Killeen, TX and Katy, TX traveler Richard Kelley both birdied the short par four 16th hole to equal the best flight score of the day and take it to extra holes with a three stroke edge over Scott Thompson from Helotes, TX. Duprey would finish with a par on the first extra playoff hole to record his third win on the year.
Senior Jones Flight: Wylie, TX traveling Dallas Tour player Mike Logsdon grabbed his first trophy on tour by a single stroke over Bob Tuttle from Kingsland, TX. Tuttle made a charge in the end going one under par on the final three holes to stay ahead of Lu Cormier from Missouri City, TX rounding out the top three.
Snead Flight: Xavier Bardy from San Antonio, TX shot a career low round, +8 - 80 for his second win on tour this year. Birdie on the par five 5th to go with an eagle two on the par four 16th solidified a ten stroke lead over Aaron Seafous from Austin, with Houston, TX player Cathay McGee another five back in third.
SKINS:
Championship: 3 -- Charles Rougeau, Austin, TX. 2 -- Charles Spangler Jr., Austin, TX. 1 -- Kyle Lewie, Waco, TX.
Palmer: 2 -- Jacob Morton, Ft. Hood, TX; Craig Hart, Killeen, TX. 1 -- Matthew Alvers, Pflugerville, TX; Larry Wilburn, Austin, TX; Tony Eno, Ft Worth TX.
