RESULTS:
Championship Flight: Leader after the first round Charles Rougeau of Austin, TX hung on after the late second day tee time for his second win in as many attempts getting his fifth round in after knee surgery to head to the National Championships. Boerne, TX member Chris Daniluck finished four strokes back and cinched the Flight Championship awards. Morgan Splichal of San Antonio, rounded out the top three just one stroke out of second.
Palmer Flight: Ron Finnerty of San Antonio, TX birdied his first hole on Saturday, added three on the back nine to tie up the first round lead with San Antonio, second time player Texas Harper. Harper eagled the par 4 -12th and par 5 -14th on Saturday, but ended up two strokes back for the runner up finish on Sunday. For Finerty this was his eighth win on tour and first since his 2012 La Cantera Classic - Palmer Course win. Todd VanDerSchaegen of San Antonio, TX and Killeen, TX player Craig Hart shared the third place honors. Dave Davlin of San Antonio, TX, the Flight Championship Points winner, presented his winning bag to recently promoted, Jacob Morton of Fort Hood, TX. Citing Morton's five wins on the year, including two Major Championships, Davlin stated, "this is the flight winner on the year and deserves the Bridgestone bag and I want him to have it".
Senior Palmer Flight: Playing out of the Palm Springs, CA Tour, Daniel Desilets of Kermit, TX started the final day two strokes back. After a hole in one on the 177 yard, par 3 - 4th hole on Sunday it appeared he wasn't going to be able to do anything wrong. Three birdies on the back, finishing at even par on the day, Desilets took the championship by seven strokes. Sharing the first round lead, Oklahoma Tour member Dave Kirby of Edmond, OK took the runner up spot, with Houston Tour player Traylor Sells of Cypress, TX rounding out the top three. Robert Lippert of Copperas Cove, TX finished T-4 and earned enough points to take home the Points Championship award.
Hogan Flight: Bryan Wood of Leander, TX started the day with a one stroke advantage on Sunday, he then matched Michael Campbell of New Braunfels, TX on the final round for his fifth win on the year and fourteenth on tour. Campbell took the runner up honors with two players knotted up in the third place finish. Rene Realme of San Antonio, TX and Killeen, TX member Brian Cox finished five strokes out of the lead. Bryan Wood left the course with the Flight Champion Bridgestone staff bag, leading the flight by more than 320 points over Rene Realme, promoted to the Hogan Flight earlier in the year with a points adjustment.
Senior Hogan Flight: Johnson City, TX resident, John Hilgers led wire to wire for his second win on tour, both on the season. Hilgers birdied the par 4 - 6th on Sunday to solidify the win by four strokes. Darrell Wilson of Georgetown, TX birdied his first hole the par 4 - 1st and took two strokes off his final round, but just couldn't get near Hilgers. Bill Clark of Helotes, TX rounded out the top three for his best finish on the season. Beginning the event, third place in the Order of Merit Points, Hilgers picked up the Flight Champion award with his flight win.
Sarazen Flight: Playing in the final group on Sunday, first round leader, Arkansas Tour Member, Kirby Rogers of Muldrow, OK knew there was a good chance the winner would come from a group in front of them. John Heintz of San Antonio, TX did just that, taking six strokes off his first round. Heintz, birdied the par 5 - 4th and par 5 - 14th to command his fifth win on the year and a promotion when the 2014 season begins. John Cox of Austin, TX matched a couple of runner up finishes for the year while Rogers rounded out the top three. Heintz, won the Flight Champion award, a Bridgestone Bag to bookend his 2012 award on his mantle.
Senior Sarazen Flight: Houston Tour member, Olan Benge of Wharton, TX was one of 7 players in the flight to get confused on one of the tee boxes on Saturday, but overcame a two stroke penalty to card his ninth win on tour and first since the 2011 Houston Tour Championship at WildCat Lakes. Gene Rampy of Bastrop, TX starting Sunday two strokes back, took four strokes off his Saturday finish to take the runner up honors. Dallas, TX resident Rick Allaire rounded out the top three shooting a pair of 88's. Gregg Smith of Austin, not participating in the event, held on to the Points Championship.
Jones Flight: First year tour member William Speck of Corpus Christi, TX was able to put two rounds together to pick up his first win on tour. Speck, with a pair of birdies on the weekend, finished out nine strokes ahead of runner up Coy Dayton of Buda, TX. First of August promotions put San Antonio, TX player Carlos Cruz in the Jones Flight for the weekend rounding out the top three. Mark Rivera of San Antonio, TX home for the weekend with a recent addition to the family finished out the year on top for the Order of Merit Points Championship.
Senior Jones Flight: Dallas Tour member, Scott Sears of Carrollton, TX started out rough on the unfamiliar layout, but took twelve strokes off on Sunday to edge out Charles Cox of Austin, TX for his first win on tour. Cox retained his Player of the Year Points position for the Bridgstone bag with the runner up finish and Joe Tyson of Austin, TX rounded out the top three with two birdies on his final nine holes.
Snead Flight: Mark Colwell of Selma, TX recorded his fourth win on tour and first since the 2010 ASA - Tour Championship at Falconhead. With a nine stroke lead after the Saturday round, Colwell tried to give the win away, but held on to a one stroke lead over a pair of San Antonio members that shared the runner up spot. Ramon Colen and Charles Mielak split the second place points. Colwell's strong season landed him the customized Bridgstone Golf Bag for the Points Championship.
Senior Snead Flight: Doyle Fleming made the trip from Haslet, TX for his seventh win on the season, including the recent Western Classic Major in Las Vegas. Three strokes back, Pflugerville, TX player Thomas Kerwin carded two consistent rounds to pick up the runner up finish and Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving. Cathay McGee of Houston, TX rounded out the top three. Dwain Smith of Cedar Park, TX took home the Points Championship in the Senior Snead Flight.
