Textron Financial Group rescued the resort out of bankruptcy in 2011, then came to a group of investors that included George Strait, the legendary "King of Country". , Millions of Dollars later, along with Golf Course Architect Tripp Davis, and low and behold, Golf, Inc. named the course, the most improved in the country, in December of 2016.
Excellent course conditions, along with mild cloudy skies to go with a few sprinkles set up the day for a great experience on the Golf Channel AM Tour - Hill Country Tour schedule.
The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $300, bringing the Texas Tour local events total to $10,710 in contributions to the Foundation in 2017.
RESULTS:
Championship Flight: First-time player, John Kellum of San Antonio, TX, made it all about him, in the limited field. Kellum carded two birdies on the day, to finish with a +3 - 75. Making his first start since November, Woodway, TX, player Billy Weaver took home the runner-up finish.
Palmer Flight: Schertz, TX, member Paul Gorman, took home the Flight hardware with his tournament low round -1 - 71. Gorman, with pars on the first eleven holes, made birdie on the par 4 - 12th, followed by a bogey on thirteen, then added another birdie on the par 3 -17th to win his second championship on tour. Danna Hoover of Burnet, TX, with two birdies of his own on the round, grabbed the runner-up finish by one stroke over Spring, TX, traveler Aaron Brougher and Chad Maytubby of local, Fair Oaks Ranch, sharing the third place finish.
Senior Palmer Flight: Doug Collins, of Iraan, TX, continued his winning ways, nearly lapping the field, for his third win of the season and second in as many attempts, after picking up the Major Championship at Sonterra. Collins, with three birdies, finished ahead of newly promoted Senior Hogan Flight player, Gary Grizzle, of San Antonio, TX, in the runner-up spot. Grizzle, with three birdies in his first four holes, finished just one stroke ahead of San Angelo, TX, member Chuck Odom, who made it close with a birdie on the final hole.
Hogan Flight: Cypress, TX, traveler David Anthony, took a three stroke lead to the 10th hole, after carding even-par 35 on the front nine. JD Schott, of Universal City, TX, matched Anthony, with a birdie on the par 4 - 10th matched and then chipped away at the lead to finish regulation tied up forcing more holes. Back to the first hole for the sudden-death playoff, it would take the pair to the par 4 - 2nd to break the tie, where Schott would pick up his fourth win on tour, first of the season and first since his promotion from the Sarazen Flight. Two strokes back of the duo, Bobby Stokes of Rosharon, TX, rounded out the top three.
Sarazen Flight: Recently promoted from the Jones Flight, Carlos Cruz, of San Antonio, TX, put an exclamation mark on the Journey to Better program with the win, in his first time out. For Cruz, it was his ninth win on Tour and first since the 2015 points season. One stroke back, Austin, TX, player Aaron Seafous and Angel Morales of San Antonio, TX, shared the runner-up finish.
Senior Sarazen Flight: Houston Tour traveler, Doyle Wofford of Montgomery, TX, finished three strokes clear of the field, with the help of a birdie on the par 4 - 5th for his seventh win on tour and first of the points season. Two-time Hill Country Tour winner, Donald Bebout of Lakeway, TX, grabbed the runner-up honors, with first time Boerne, TX, player John Maywald, taking home the third place finish.
Jones Flight: Down one stroke making the turn, Larry Harper of nearby San Antonio, TX, recorded two birdies on the back nine to pick up his eighth win on Tour and second of the season. Spring, TX, RV traveler Terry Collins, struggled on the first hole but bounced back with a birdie on the par 4 - 4th, to finish in the second place spot with Mackie Crossan of Abilene, TX, rounding out the top three.
Snead Flight: San Antonio, TX, player Ethan Blase, commanded his fifth win of the season in certain Performance Promotion fashion. Blase, dropped his Tournament Index Trend into the Jones Flight and looks one of the next players to graduate to the better flight, on the 2nd of July. Kevin Crosson of Abilene, TX, recorded his third runner-up finish of the season, with Lewisville, TX, player Ron Hardy, two strokes back in the third place finish.

The Dominion Country Club will hold the next Hill Country Tour event for the San Antonio Masters on Monday, June 19, with a registration deadline of Friday, June 9th.
Nearly 60 Texas Tour Members have already registered and will make the trip East to Choctaw, MS, for the Ole Miss Open at Dancing Rabbit Major Championship on Saturday, June, 25th and Sunday, June, 26th. Registrations will close, this Friday, June 10th.
Dallas Tour members will take on Tangle Ridge Golf Club for the Grand Prairie Classic on Saturday, July 1st. Almost sold out this early, don't wait for the registration as it closes Friday, June 23rd.
The Houston Tour, will break for Major Championship season and get back into action again a The Woodlands for the Player Championship on Wednesday, July 19th, with entries closing on Friday, July, 7th.
