Back to Silverhorn Golf Club on Hill Country Tour

Scott R Chilcutt, San Antonio, TX (April 10, 2016)  Back on the tour, after a long layoff, Silverhorn Golf Club proved to be a worthy opponent to the 80+ players that made the field.

Bruce Beakley (Senior Palmer Flight), was "Up for the Srixon Challenge", winning his prospective flight playing a Srixon ball and will get a dozen sent to him for the win. CD Dunem, with a -6 net score, won for the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving  The winner of the Feherty's Troops First Foundation 50/50 raffle, took home $280, bringing the year to date total from the Texas Tours to $4,950 contributed to the Foundation.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  First time player, Jake Goodman of San Antonio, TX, carded two birdies coming to the clubhouse on the back nine to edge out fellow San Antonio player Ernesto Beyer by a single stroke.  Beyer, struggled on the front nine, bounced back on the back nine with birdies on the par 4 - 17th and par 5 - 18th, but wasn't able to overcome the lead the 21 year old Goodman had packed away.  Four strokes back of Beyer, Rusty Lippert of Copperas Cove, TX, recorded two birdies on the day to round out the top three.

Palmer Flight:  Ron Finnerty of San Antonio, TX,  ended his front nine a little shaky, with a double on the par 4 - 9th, but turned the tables coming to the clubhouse with a birdie on the par 5 - 10th. Finnerty added another birdie on the par 4 - 14th, to play the back nine in even par, picking up his tenth win on tour and first since the December 2014, South Texas Winter Championship.  First year player, Scott Meyers of Copperas Cove, TX, made a birdie at his final hole of the day, the par 5 - 18th to grab his best finish on tour, with Coupland, TX, player Chris Wadle, and his eagle on the par 5 - 6th taking home the third place honors.

Senior Palmer Flight:  Houston Tour member, Bruce Beakley rolled into town and picked up his National Championship qualifying third win on the season. Beakley, with birdies on the par 4 - 11th and par 3 -16th wrapped up his win, starting on the back nine, by two strokes.  San Antonio, TX, resident, Gary Grizzle, with two birdies on his round, and Doug Collins of Iraan, TX, with  birdies on his round, shared the runner up finish.

Hogan Flight:  Thought to be out of the championship, with an eleven on his first hole of the day, Micah Carroll of Anchorage, AK, followed his first hole debacle, with a birdie, added three more on the back and ended up in a three way playoff.  Hector Cavazos of San Antonio, TX and Round Rock, TX, player Jorge Rodriguez, took it to extra holes.  In the end, Carroll, was triumphant, his first win on tour.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Paul Wuerdeman of San Antonio, TX, started the day with a birdie on his first hole, the par 5 - 10th, added another at the par 5 - 18th and never looked back.  It was Wuerdeman's ninth win on tour and first since the 2015 Srxion Championship at La Cantera.  Kingsland, TX player and 2012 Senior Sarazen National Champion, Bob Tuttle, finished just one stroke back, with Tim VanLandingham, coming off a T2 finish at the Major Championship at Horseshoe Bay, finishing in the third place position.

Sarazen Flight:  San Antonio, TX, player, Devin Brown made birdie on his final hole of the day, the par 5 -18th when it meant the most.  Brown, out of the winners circle since the 2015 San Antonio Masters at The Dominion Country Club, picked up his ninth win on tour, two strokes clear of CD Dunem of New Braunfels, TX.  Two back of Dunem, Austin, TX player  Douglas Galloway, rounded out the top three.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Mervyn Jobe of San Antonio, TX, picked up his first win on tour.  Jobe, with birdies at the par 4 - 4th, par 5 - 6th and par 3 - 7th proved to be plenty for the Championship.  San Antonio, TX standout, Robert Jalnos, with two birdies on his round, cleared two players knotted in the third place finish by four strokes.   Off his trip to the Masters, Round Rock, TX, member Michael Brewer and recently relocated to Texas, Charles Lambert, split the show place finish.

Jones Flight:  Playoffs finishing the day, put Larry Harper of San Antonio, TX, and Lakeway, TX member Donald Bebout, into extra holes to finalize the Championship.  At the first sudden death hole, Harper was victorious, for his first win as a Jones Flight player, after winning the 2014 National Championship in the Snead Flight. Carlos Gloria of San Antonio, TX and Portland, TX, player James Price, finished just one stroke back.

Snead Flight: Dwain Smith of Georgtown, TX, picked up his sixth win on tour and first since the 2015 event at Twin Creeks in Cedar Park.  San Antonio, TX, member Ramon Colen back to the tour after a third place finish at the Duel in the Desert, grabbed the runner up spot, with Dan O'Shea of Copperas Cove, TX, rounding out the top three.
